About Dr. Sreelima Poonthottam

Healing has always been more than a profession for Dr. Sreelima R. P.—it has been the purpose that has guided her life. She believes that true healing is not merely the absence of disease but the restoration of harmony between the body, mind, and soul. This philosophy has shaped every stage of her journey and continues to inspire her work as the Co-founder and Chief Physician of Ayushpathy Ayurvedasram.

Born and raised in a middle-class family where traditional values were deeply cherished, Dr. Sreelima grew up in an environment where Ayurveda was not merely a system of medicine but a way of life. The wisdom of Ayurveda had been preserved and practised in her family through generations, nurturing in her a profound respect for nature's healing principles from an early age.

Her passion for serving others and helping people heal naturally led her to choose Ayurveda as her life's calling. She pursued her Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), laying a strong foundation in the science of holistic healing.

After graduation, she had the privilege of training at Poonthottam Ayurvedasram under the guidance of the renowned Vaidya Dr. P. M. S. Raveendranath. The years spent under his mentorship transformed her understanding of Ayurveda. She realised that true healing extends far beyond treating physical illness—it embraces the body, mind, and soul. This experience strengthened her commitment to becoming not just a physician, but a compassionate guide who walks alongside every patient on their journey toward wellness.

Believing that Yoga is an inseparable part of holistic health, Dr. Sreelima pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Yoga in 2014. Her personal experience with Yoga reinforced her conviction that it plays a profound role in promoting physical vitality, mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual well-being. This qualification enabled her to integrate Yoga into her practice through a scientific and authentic approach.

In 2014, she married Dr. Mridul Poonthottam, who shares her passion for authentic Ayurvedic healing. Together, they envisioned creating an Ayurvedic centre that would be more than a place for treatment—a sanctuary where people could restore balance, rediscover hope, and experience genuine healing.

Their shared dream became a reality in 2015 with the establishment of Ayushpathy Ayurvedasram.

While serving patients through Ayushpathy, Dr. Sreelima increasingly recognised that many physical illnesses were closely intertwined with emotional distress, stress, anxiety, and other psychological concerns. Listening to her patients' stories reinforced her belief that healing can never be complete without caring for the mind alongside the body.

Driven by this conviction, she chose the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity for further learning and personal growth. She enrolled in a Master's programme in Psychology and completed her specialization in Clinical Psychology, equipping herself with deeper insights into the emotional and psychological dimensions of illness. This additional expertise further strengthened her ability to provide compassionate, comprehensive, and truly patient-centred care.

Today, Dr. Sreelima's approach to healthcare beautifully integrates the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda, the transformative practices of Yoga, and the understanding of Clinical Psychology. She believes that when these disciplines come together, they offer a truly holistic path to healing—one that nurtures the body, calms the mind, and uplifts the soul.

For Dr. Sreelima, Ayurveda is not merely a profession—it is a lifelong commitment to serving humanity through the timeless wisdom of nature, compassion, and authentic human connection.
